Notes	This county scrip was issued in Bellville by Austin County. The left side of the note depicts a vignette of a maiden above an oval cartouche containing the abbreviation, ''No.''; the number ''722'' is handwritten under the abbreviation. Across the top center of the note are the words ''Austin County'' in all caps and a shadow-case outline Victorian type font. Beneath these words is a scene of boys and a wagon of cotton bales. A dog appears in the bottom center of the note. The word ''Three'' is overprinted in red and all caps across the center. Along the right side of note and inside a decorative cartouche, the word ''Three'' is displayed in all caps and a shadow-case outline Victorian type font. The note is signed on the recto by Ben T. Harris, County Treasurer, and on the verso by G. W. Matthews. The first three digits that comprise the year, 186, are printed; the last digit of the year, 2, is handwritten. The month and day are also handwritten. BC-11. The 1860 census for Travis Pct., Austin County, M653, roll 1287, page 229, lines 22-30, lists Ben T. Harris as a 30-year-old attorney at law, born in Mississippi, with real estate valued at $2500 and personal property at $3305. He and his presumed spouse had 2 young children.
