Notes	This audited draft was issued in Houston by the Republic of Texas. Houston was established in 1836 to replace Harrisburg, which had been burned by Santa Anna. Named after Sam Houston, it was the seat of government from April 19, 1837, to January 18, 1840. The note is printed on buff color, watermarked paper. Decorative printer designs border all edges of the note. The abbreviation "No." is printed in the upper-left corner; an illegible number is handwritten adjacent to it. A dollar sign is printed in the upper-right corner; the amount ''$42.00'' is handwritten adjacent to it. The note is signed on the recto by John Wyatt Moody, Auditor. The note is endorsed on the verso by Benedict Johnson. Moody was the auditor for the Provisional Government of Texas and later for the Republic (TARO and Texas History Page). CR: HW-3.
