Notes	This stock certificate was issued in Harrisburg by the Town of Harrisburg for shares of property in the town. The left border of the note consists of elaborately ornate designs, including a vignette of Liberty seated within a roundel holding a shield and a liberty pole and cap. Two roundels with stars are printed above and below the vignette. The abbreviation ''No'' is printed in the upper-left corner; the number ''70'' is handwritten adjacent to it over a ruled lines. The phrase ''Town of Harrisburg.'' is printed in the upper-center of the note in a simple bold font. The word ''SHARES'' is printed in an all caps, shadow type face in the upper-right corner of the note; the number ''400'' is handwritten before it over ruled lines. Three lines border each side of the certificate. The month and day, June 28th, are handwritten across the bottom edge of the note; the first two digits of the year, 18, are printed, and the last two, 39, are handwritten. The following phrase is printed towards the upper-center of the note in a mix of Gothic and simple fonts: ''This Certificate of the Consolidated Stock of the Town of Harrisburg, Entitles William P. Harris (handwritten)....'' The note is signed on the recto by Stephen Richardson, President; Trustees John Birdsall, David Gouverneur Burnet, and John W. Moore; and Andrew Briscoe, Agent. It is signed on the verso by William. P. Harrison, Andrew Briscoe, and Robert Wilson. Stephen Richardson was one of Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred colonists, a participant in the Grass Fight and siege of Bexar, and a steam sawmill operator in Harrisburg for nearly 10 years beginning in 1836 (TSHA). John Birdsall was appointed attorney general of the Republic of Texas by Sam Houston in 1837 and became Houston's law partner in 1839 (TSHA). David G. Burnet was interim president of the Republic from March 17 to October 22, 1836, vice-president under Mirabeau B. Lamar, and secretary of state to the State of Texas (TSHA). John W. Moore was one of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence and holder of various public offices, including alderman of the city of Houston (TSHA). Andrew Briscoe was a merchant, the chief justice of Harrisburg county (appointed by Sam Houston), railway development advocate, and president of the Harrisburg Railroad and Trading Company (TSHA). Robert Wilson was a gristmill and sawmill owner, Texas Senator from 1836-1839, and one of the developers of the city of Houston (TSHA).
