Notes	This private scrip was issued in Galveston by The Commercial and Agricultural Bank of Texas. The bank was chartered by Mexico in 1835 and notes were printed in anticipation of the bank's opening at Columbia (which see). Samuel M. Williams opened the bank in 1848 under the original Mexican charter. This currency sheet includes four notes. The first note is a $100.00 note; the second is a $50.00 note; the third is a $20.00 note; and the fourth is a $10.00 note. The first three notes have the plate designation ''A,'' and the $10.00 note has the designation ''B.'' On the $100.00 note a vignette of a distant train on a bridge comprises the left border of the note. In the center is a vignette of Navigation, Commerce, and Agriculture seated. The vignette on the right side of the note is of sailing ships. On the $50.00 note the left border includes the number ''50'' in a decorative cartouche in the upper corner, a vignette of a barrel and a cotton plant in the middle, and the word ''FIFTY'' in the bottom corner. A vignette of an eagle with Liberty, Justice, and Commerce is printed in the upper-center of the note. Along the right border of the note the number ''50'' is printed in the upper corner and a vignette of a sailing ship appears in the lower corner. An eagle is printed in the bottom-center of the note. On the $20.00 note the left border includes the number ''20'' in a decorative cartouche in the upper corner, a vignette of a barrel and a cotton plant in the middle, and the word ''TWENTY'' in the bottom corner. A vignette of an eagle with Liberty, Justice, and Commerce is printed in the upper-center of the note. Along the right border of the note the number ''20'' is printed in the upper corner and a vignette of a sailing ship appears in the lower corner. An eagle is printed in the bottom-center of the note. On the $10.00 note the left border includes the Roman numeral ''X'' in a decorative cartouche in the upper corner, a vignette of a barrel and a cotton plant in the middle, and the word ''TEN'' in the bottom corner. A bust of George Washington is printed in the upper-center of the note with Agriculture to his left and Commerce to his right. Along the right border of the note the Roman numeral ''X'' is printed in the upper corner and a bust of an unknown maiden appears in the lower corner. A small vignette of barrels and crates is printed at the bottom-center of the note.
