Notes	This audited draft was issued in Austin by the Republic of Texas. Austin was the capitol of the Republic from January 19, 1840, until September 1842 and from June 1945 to the present. A diamond pattern decorates the top, right, and bottom edges of the note. An ornate decoration comprises the left border: the imprint ''Whiting's Press, Austin.'' appears within the border. The abbreviation ''No.'' is printed towards the upper-left corner of the note; the number ''322'' is handwritten adjacent to it. A dollar sign is printed towards the upper-right corner; the amount ''1437.02'' is handwritten adjacent to it. The month, day, and last two digits of the year are handwritten; the first two digits of the year, 18, are printed. The note is payable to Asa Brigham for duties as treasurer of the Republic. It is signed on the recto by the acting secretary of the treasury, whose signature is illegible. It is signed on the verso by James Wright Simmons, Treasurer. Simmons was a poet, controller of the Republic of Texas from 1839-1840, and treasurer from 1840-1841 (TSHA). Brigham was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, first treasurer of the Republic of Texas, and mayor of Austin (TSHA). The phrase ''10A'' is written in pencil on the recto and ''Austin'' 10A'' is written on the verso; they are not original to the note.
