Notes	This county scrip was issued in Tyler by Smith County. A vignette comprises the left border of the note. The words ''FIVE_ FIVE-'' are printed adjacent to the vignette. The Roman numeral ''V'' is printed three times in a row towards the upper-left corner of the note; the number ''5'' is printed three times in a row in the upper-right corner. The phrase ''The Treasurer of Smith County'' is printed near the top edge. A small vignette of a steamboat is printed adjacent to the left and the right borders. The plate designation ''D'' and the abbreviation ''No.'' are printed in-between the two steamboat vignettes. The number ''198'' is handwritten adjacent to the ''No.'' abbreviation in red ink. The phrase ''Five Dollars'' appears across the face of the note. The place and date are printed in the lower-left corner. The note is signed on the recto by Robert W. Chapman, County Clerk, in red ink. Chapman, a native of Tennessee, lists his occupation in the 1860 Census as clerk of the county court. Words, possibly including a signature, are handwritten on the verso of the note. BC-310.
