Description
La Mostra , Naples after being taken over by the Medical Services . A few years before the war Bennito Mussolini had built a World's Fair-type exhibition on the outskirts of Naples . Its purpose was to display Italian products and culture . When Allied forces captured Naples in early 1944 , the fair or La Mostra was requisitioned and converted into a very large Medical Center , housing several General Hospitals , including the 15th Medical General Laboratory and the 3rd detachment , Medical Museum and Arts Service . Very little alteration was done to the buildings ; they were completely outfitted with water , sewer , and electricity lines and, within a period of only three weeks , all were ready and casualties were being cared for. From here, a wounded soldier was either evacuated to the U.S . -- or sent back to duty .
