Plain Text Transcription	Letter 89 [Handwritten] [Jan 29, 1776] [Address panel:] To The Revd Mr Haw[e]is At Aldwinkle Thrapston Northamptonshire [Postmarked from London, January 29] My very dear Friends This moment I have not only your letter but in it the hearts of both most faithfully felt towards me. I cannot enough thank God for your deliverance from that poor wretched man & woman. I write to the college tonight to say if Aldington will ever mean to oblige me he must serve you & that directly if he has a heart this will more effectually do it than anything I know. I long of all things to have one hour with you both as a prospect is now before me of what we often talked over & even a better place than the White Horse Cellar but matters are so upon the _____ only that I must say no more. The true light now shineth & the Lord shall prosper this matter & yet greater things also. Do let my d[ea]r Mrs H: remember I told her great events was at hand & surely they are. Do take care of yourself. My heart leap'd for joy at these words "of wider usefullness". The Lock: I am assured is in the decline. The father[?] of it is just [p.2] come to town. Doors are opening everywhere. O! for a day of God's mighty power. I rejoice with trembling our head over our hearts & our hands may the[?] ever be only employ'd with & for the Lord. A willingness seems to be blindly coming up for his service in many. I have so long seen them sit as the benches they sat upon that I am even comforted by any blunderings for him. Blessed be his name. I find My heart [tho little more than lukewarm I fear] yet has some warmth towards him. This cold weather it makes me an intire prisoner & d[ea)r Mrs Haw[e)is would say not _____ in habitation from that lovely & elegant apartment at Bath. I shall order that-Aldington shall write directly to you & that[?] by the first post. How odd that you should in so right & Christian a spirit advise to patience, little suspecting[?] your intended cant[?] was the very miserable instance I had hinted at to you. Nothing that you can conceive ever did or can come up to the whole scene of villainy lay’d down. Lord what is man.* I am everymore my d[ea]r friends Most faithfully & affectionately, &c., &c. S Huntingdon London Margate Street Jan 29 1776 Its so late I must say no more as I have the college to write[?] [p. 3] Since I begun this word is brought me by a singular providence. The ground I want it will certainly soon be at liberty. [*A Scripture quote—and also the title of two of JW’s sermons.]
