Plain Text Transcription	Letter 88 [Handwritten] [Jan 22 1776] [Address panel:] To The Revd Mr Haw[e]is at Aldwinkle Thrapston Northamptonshire [Nice red wax seal; two London postmarks January 24 and January 25, and one illegible.] My d[ea]r Friends Your kind letter has this moment Come to hand forgive my not writing sooner, So ill & so much to do will plead with your kind hearts for me & the alarm I have by your letter just received distress me - that Eccles is the terriable[sic] Creature that in the Connection with Mrs Wench has not only forged my hand but been vile enough to make me a forger of his. O! such a scene of deep lay'd villeney[sic] never was known I do believe therefore, My d[ea]r friends, drop it & make no replys his character abroad & at home is beyond all you can conceive[?]. May the Lord fully [?] & forgive is all the returns I can make him for his baseness or all I ever will thousands of troubles have surrounded but a few posts shall [p. 2] inform you of some particulars. I hate to be within reach of you both & not able to see you, Your letter has been eleven days Coming. My stay cannot be long in town as I am obliged to be at Norwich to settle all my great matters there, do get Aldington & let me know when you will be at liberty. We shall always want you that sure of & let me hear one line by the return of the post. I am not worse but ~ suffered with a gouty head terriably.
