Plain Text Transcription	Letter 70 [Handwritten] May 13, 1766 [Address panel:] To Mrs Wadsworth at Chauncy Townsends Esqr in Austin Friers London My dearest Friend This first post I impatiently waited for to assure you of our safe arrival here, and that faithfull affection my heart bears you wherever it was. Could my words satisfie me of the obligations I feel to you, you must expect a volume but it is wrote in that book which must ere long be open'd & as belonging first to Christ & a beloved sister in him & next the natural & tender feelings of every human sentiment of gratitude makes you very near & dear to me. My faithfull burden bearer how would you share with me at present when on my arrival found here above twenty of our people that are full as wild as Bell & many more tormented. The tender gentle spirit of Mr Hicks does well for them. I live in dread of my own spirit shining [p. 2] but for the General, I feel such a distress that it does not rise as I do expect it will. My own poor maid while warming the bed told me she did not dare say she was a poor sinner & their teacher sayes we know no further than Abraham's faith & sayes of some they are ready money for the devil. Nothing can be more deplorable than their present state & the offence & hindrance to the gospel great. They _____ but the Lord knows but what our various trials are to work for us & thus I feel willing to be satisfied & resolve to say nothing to any of them but one who was to have been my servant but I could not take her as their end is not to bring sinners’ but to _____ division, but they are like to quarrell amidst themselves & some I hope by that means will be d _____. The rest a sweet simple souls & wath[?] love & prilly[?] but the _____ is to be dreaded. [p. 3] I long to hear from you & I am in no little pain to find how the air of the city does with your poor dear lunges. I fear but ill which with the longing desire I was _____ after you makes me hope to breath a little of this air will refresh you. Hope to write soon again as our _____ _____ to night & I have had much to desire. I came, I long to hear how dear Jos[eph] does, & if Mr Shirley will go to Bath. I hope you se our friend at Knightsbridge & p[text wanting] him to say when I may expect him [text wanting] or at Bath. All that is kind [text wanting] Miss Townsends for me & that I [text wanting] certainly have waited on them [text wanting] been p _____ able.
