[Address

To The
Revd
[and]
Mrs
Haw[e]is
at
Thrapston
Northamptonshire
My
very
d[ea]r
Friends
I
delayed
answering
your
kind
letter
till
after
the
opening
this
Chapel
which
we
did
in the
Lord's
Holy
fear
[
?
did
she
mean
name?]
Sunday
Seper
3d
. There
really
was a
sweet
blessing
&
thousands
did
hear
. In the
services
Mr
Glascott
&
Peckwell[?]
preached
twice
each
&
the
Lord
was with them
&
there
is
a
prospect
for the
Hot
Wells
&
for the
better
sort
in
Bristol
.
Many
of the
students
was here
&
our
work
so
encreasing
that
we
were
forced
to
empty
the
College
of
all
but
four
to
help
us in the
various
plans
of
importance
[“various
plans
of
importance”
a
common
usage
by
LH]
.
Many
providences
has
led
me
to
think
of
Cornwall--&
I
have in
effect
purchased
a
preaching
house
which
I
mean
to
make
a
Chapel
within
four
miles
of
Mr
Wills'
. The
spirit
among
the
poor
tinners
&
miners
engage
my
utmost
cause
there.
[p
.
2]
It
is
quite
amazing
to
hear
of
&
I
should
hope
from this the
Lord's
day
of their
visitation
is
truly
come
. With the
Lord's
leave
I
hope
to
set
out
on
Tuesday
next
for
Cornwall
,
stay
two
nights
at
my
Wem[?]
Wills
&
then
go
to
Redruth
or
St
Die[?]
to a
house
that will be
taken
for
me
resolving
if
possible
before
I
die
to
establish
something
for these
poor
creatures
as
no
one
seems
to
care
for their
souls
. The
chain
of
events
that have
led
to this has been
quite
wonderfull
. Should any
thing
in the
more
wise
dispensation[?]
of the
Lord
prevent
me
you
shall
know
otherwise
.
Direct
for
me
at
Mr
Wills
. They have
no
idea
of
my
coming
till
by this
post
&
they
must
be
almost
as
much
surprised
as
myself
.
My
health
will
I
trust
enable
me
to
get
th[r]ough
as
I
have been
supported
through
a
hurry
that
is
insupportable
for
every
thing
but the
Lord's
business
. A
student
now
in
double
orders
that
is
releast[?]
from
going
abroad
I
have
desired
to
write
to
offer
himself
to
you
.
[p
.
3]
His
name
is
Aldrington
, an
honest
&
capable
young
man
&
I
think
would
do
for
you
&
I
trust
he would
set
you
sooner
at
liberty
which
will
rejoice
me
&
many
more
of
your
faithfull
friends
at
Bath
.
Mr
Toplady
stay'd
but
two
Sundays
at
Bath
&
preached
two
Sundays
while
with
me
in the
Churches
at
Bristol
&
I
hope
will
soon
be in
Sussex
.
I
long
to have him
more
engaged
for the
salvation
of
sinners
. The
Lord
has
favoured
us with his
blessing
at the
anniversary
&
the
opening
a
Chapel
at
Wem
in
Shropshire
&
also
one[?]
in
Lewes
.
Thus
,
we
go
on
no
man
making
us
afraid
[see
Lev
26:6
;
Job
11:19
;
Isa
17:[not
visible]
]
.
My
heart
is
quite
in
Cornwall
&
I
expect
many
blessings
upon
the
poor
,
poor
tinners
.
I
hope
to
hear
you
will
soon
be at
Bath
&
as
soon
as
my
Chapel
is
prepared
in
Cornwall
I
trust
you
will
speak
a
word
there for
our
dear
Master
.
Poor
R--he
must
give
up
his
book
or
me
.
I
am
sure
I
am
not
worth
it
&
so
my
lott
will be in
good
ground
. For
me
I
have a
thousand
things
to
say
but
hurried
out
of
my
life
[p
.
4--written

so
can
only
add
to
d[ea]r
Mr
&
Mrs
Haw[e]is
that
I
am
ever
their
faithfull
&
affectionate
friend
