Dear
Sir:-
I
hope
before
this
you
have
received
a
short
letter
from
me
acknowledging
myself
the
occasion
by not
having
before
prevented
it
of
Mr
Ashborn's
preaching
in the
Chapel
&
which
I
am
certain
Mr
Sheppard
had.
I
said
a
word
would not have
admitted
.
I
do
more
heartily
concurr
with
you
in
your
plan
of
making
Bath
&
Brighthelmstone
exactly
regular
.
I
conclude
by
Jo
Irregulars
you
don't
mean
those of the
clergy
that,
see
it
their
duty
to
preach
Jesus
Christ
whenever
they
[the]
see
his
call
to
it
.
I
have
no
doubt
but
Mr
Shirley
,
Mr
.
Glascot
&
Mr
.
Peekwell
rejoice
to
give
help
in
succession
with
others
these have been in the
work
long
&
disintesteredly
serving
&
which
justice
&
honour
as
well
as
love
for them
engage
my
highest
gratitude
. With these the
suppliers
may
be
well
&
fully
obtained--for
men
then there
two
places
. As
I
have
another
able
minister
offering
now
for the
Connection
&
my
Welch
Friends
will
rejoice
I
know
so
to
serve
Mr
.
Wills
coughland
Mr
.
Sheppard
make
seven
in
closest
connection
&
Mr
.
Venn
offers
his
services
(p
.
2)
as to
your
objections
made
whether
tickets
or by
_______
contributors
which
I
am
not
able
to
maintain
the
vast
expence
of these
charges
belonging
to
such
congregations
. How
can
the
ministers
be
properly
rewarded
for their
labours
who
have
no
other
maintinence
to
support
them.
Norwich
has
all
collected
&
put
into a
gentleman's
hands
who
takes
up
the
account
&
lye
open
. The
same
the
Mulbury
Gardens
, but this
is
raised
by the
seats
or
contributions
sent
in. The
overplus
is
to be
appointed
for the
furtherance
of the
Gospel
. A
house
must
be
opened
for the
ministers
, their
travelling
charges
born[e]
&
some
little
present
made
them that are
low
.
All
which
does
amount
to
considerable
expence
. This
I
can
support
allover
England
,
Brighton
&
Chichester
has
forty
[illegible]
Guineas
each
for the
board
of the
ministers
&
Tunbridge
fully
paid
by
me
&
all
the
young
congregations
have been
wholly
upon
me
.
Thus
you
see
my
dear
Sir
the
exact
state
of
matters
.
Bristol
is
in the
hands
of
Mr
Godde
&
Ireland
with their
accounts
also
upon
any
other
foot
I
could
not
do
any
thing
as the
proportionable
numbers
in
our
labours
in the
country
are a
hundred
to
one
to
all
that
ever
attend
the
chapels
&
these
poor
precious
souls
that
can't
give
a
penny
to
assist
these are the
points
that
appear
infinitely
the
more
important
&
the
rich
&
[p
.
3]
the
wise
, the
great
&
the
proud
I
would be
glad
should
hear
but these
ought
(if
better
for the
gospel)
to
feel
the
deep
crys
of the
poor
from
afflicted
&
ignorant
conscience
.
I
am
glad
&
thankfull
you
or any are
carefull
about
these but
my
whole
heart
&
soul
is
with the
poor
dispised
&
afflicted
of this
world
&
who
are
rich
in
faith
&
heirs
of a
Kingdom
the
tho
so
needy
as to
want
a
bed
to
lye
upon
. As to the
committees
in any or
all
of the
places
they have not the
least
to
do
with the
choice
of the
ministry
. This
I
can
depute
none
for, as
it
must
personally
belong
to
me
legally
to
appoint
&
for
which
only
I
am
answerable--so
that
I
would not have
______
carefull
about
them on this
account
.
Our
perfect
agreement
upon
this
subject
is
all
that
is
wanting
with the
concurrent
approbation
of those
ministers
in
connection
with
me
&
who
I
am
sure
will
rejoice
abundantly
in this
matter
. Should
Mr
Shirley
go
to
Ireland
his
immediate
place
at
Bath
will have a
temporal
aid
for
others
. If not, his
longer
time
there
must
render
it
expedient
yet
for him there
is
little
prospect
to a
settlement
yet
for him.
I
am
distrest
to
part
with him if
agreeable
to the
Lord's
will
I
could
continue
him in
England
. His
excellent
spirit
&
readiness
to
serve
are
very
sweet
to
me
. Any
thing
within
my
power
to
regulate
that
could
make
it
more
agreeable
to the
ministers
my
heart
&
all
I
have
(p

offerings
of
comfort
or
love
could
afford
them as
