My
dear
Friends
A
moment’s
interval
of
ease
or
relief
from
business
dearer
to
me
than
life
,
I
fly
to
my
dear
kind
friends
who
so
sweetly
taste
with
me
that
joy
that
ever
follows
dear
Mr
Haweis
precious
labours
to his
own
faithfull
heart
&
his
many
blessed
instructed
hearers
. This to
me
increasing
delight
I
hear
from
many
quarters
&
those
who
have had
respect
before
are
charm’d
with
your
fire
,
zeal
&
faithfull
testimony
given
&
has
silenced
many
secret
yet
well
known
enemies
of
yours
to
shame
.
America
does
fill
my
heart
with
arguments
to
our
gracious
Lord
.
Happy
should
I
have been had
you
seen
this
wisely
prepar’d
for his
mission
(Mr
Johnson)
. He
is
to
me
a
wonder
&
as
such
also to
me
from his
humble
[written
over
“kind”]
disposition
&
most
unreserved
devotion
to
our
dearest
Lord
.
Great
openings
I
find
by the
most
certain
intelligence
for
me
estate
there. The
Virginia
planters
have
chose
this
spot
for this as
preference
in
labour
&
some
thousands
will be
established
in the
tobacco
trade
where
rice
&
indigo
may
be
continued
independently
.
“O
! how
much
I
cry
out
great
&
marvelous
are they
ways
thou
king
of
saints,”
but
above
all
my
views
for the
Indian
Nations
transport
my
heart
. A
meeting
is
appointed
for the
Chief
of the
Nations
at
New
York
where
I
shall
direct
Mr
Johnson
&
with him
one
of the
states
of
America
for
my
authorised
attorney
to
attend
for a
purpose
of
union
&
which
by
two
of
my
attorneys
an
establishment
may
be
secured
. The
Chief
of the
Creek
Nation
, a
man
of
[
?
organis’d
or
originated]
wonderfull
knowledge
&
parts
origins’d
from
Britain
,
thus
my
dear
friend
I
end[?]
South
Seas
,
&c
.
&c
.
Let
us
look
to for
our
dear
Lord’s
in
heritance
&
that as
poor
as
we
are he will
take
us for
servants
in these
honours
[p
.
2]
&
every
nerve
of
mine
seem
_______
for his
waiting
orders
.
I
have
directed
Mr
Hemington
to
lay
their
conditions
before
me
.
I
can
stop
at
nothing
. If
poor
dear
Robinson
drops
the
most
wicked
&
carnal
priest
to be
got
will
succeed
him.
Every
soul
with the
full
mean
of these
words
can
have
no
restraint
to any
real
disciple
of
Jesus
Christ
.
“Go
ye
into
all
the
world
&
preach
the
gospel
to
every
creature.”
Party
faction
,
church
interest
is
the
bane
to the
simple
plain
faithfull
obedience
to be
each
moment
of
our
lives
our
only
object
.
You
shall
know
soon
all
about
what
I
can
do
but
it
will be
certainly
all
I
can
do
to
get
some
precious
souls
out
of the
devil’s
fingers
.
Two
petitions
you
have from
me
at
your
feet
.
One
to
open
Zion
Chapel
. This
lyes
near
my
own
pride
&
very
near
my
inside
.
No
publick
meeting
is
to be
attended
this
year
.
About
12
clergy
must
attend
on that
day
,
three
to
each
chapel
for
three
days
.
I
write
to
dear
Glascott
depending
on his
long
faithfulness
&
the
probable
consideration
.
It
may
be his
last
personal
service
to his
poor
old
mistress
.
I
know
you
will not
reject
your
poor
weak
petitioner
. Any
time
shall
be
continued
&
should
Doctor
Walker
for
your
sake
give
a
day
or
two
for a
blessing
on this
Plan
among
the
most
vile
&
wretched
on
earth
,
all
to
make
him
easy
&
happy
in his
own
way
assure
him of from
me
.
It
is
now
the
time
of the
travelling
fund
, the
very
&
vast
importance
of the
work
for the
South
Seas
,
New
Brunswick
,
America
&
perhaps
Virginia
with the
vast
spread
of the
gospel
among
the
very
poor
in
various
places
of
such
consequence
.
I
must
as on
my
knees
intreat
from
you
I
have
much
credit
for the
wonderfull
things
done
.
I
am
a
miser
for its
safety
&
utility
[?]
. This
before
your
leave
Brighton
,
my
dear
,
dear
friend
,
beg
for.
Affectionate
&
faithfull
respect
my
dear
M
Haweis
&
as
every
oblig’d
&
affectionately
Your

This
miserable
scrawle
has
cost
my
weakness
hours
of
painfull
imposition
if
my
heart
was not
alive
in
every
word
.
Love
to
dear

my

Nothing
can
come
up
to the
miserable
cruel

wicked
conduct
that
unhappy
creature
Bradford

his
poor
little
wretch’d
son
but
such
as the
strength
of the
butterfly
to
my
stubborn
spirit
in the

strength
