Summary	The success of our Armed Forces depends largely upon the health of the millions of men, women, and children who form the backbone of the nation for which they are fighting. The prevalence of disease among the civilian population is reflected promptly by the sickness rate among the troops. The health of the many millions of workers in war industries determines the volume of the endless stream of supplies required by our armies at home and overseas. Epidemic diseases have been the scourge of all previous wars and have often determined the outcome... The purpose of the Health and Medical Committees should be planning the development of adequate coordinated health programs for each community and the building up of citizens' understanding and citizens' participation. Protection of the health and safety of the people is essential for the successful prosecution of the war.--p. 2.
