Summary	This booklet tells the supervisor about position classification, as it operates in the Navy Department. It is intended to explain some of the basic features of the system. It is not a technical treatise, and it is not a 'doctor book' for the treatment of individual classification problems. Nor is it a substitute for a training course for classification specialists, in the technique of classification fact-finding, analysis, and evaluation. Rather, it presents to Navy supervisors the background of the system and explains the basic features of the Navy classification plan.--p.1
Target Audience	In preparing this booklet for distribution to many thousands of Navy supervisors, it was decided that maximum value would be obtained if it were gauged to the relatively new supervisor, who is not familiar with Position Classification. The indulgence of those already familiar with the system is therefore requested.--p. 1.
