Summary	Men, women, and children in every country of the world have been affected in one way or another by the shortages which follow the diversion of a large proportion of the population to the armed forces and to the production of war materials. In the countries where production equipment and transportation facilities have been destroyed and the health of the population has been undermined by food shortages imposed by the Axis powers, the situation is inevitably much worse than in countries far from the combat zones. There is, however, no country, for which information is available, in which there have not been wartime shortages of consumers' goods and consequent price increases.--p. 3.
