From S.M. Bull at Llantwit Major near Cowbridge, Glamorganshire to T.H. in Bath, Somerset. The Lord has been merciful by bringing Bull back into the bosom of his family to find that they are all healthy and at peace, with the exception of his youngest child who has been violently ill but is now recovering. Spiritual matters are discussed. Looking back on his long journey he was not frightened by any danger of the road – not even the deep waters of the river Severn. The Lord be thanked! Bull is particularly grateful to T.H. from whom he met with such tremendous kindness. He wishes with the utmost sincerity to thank T.H. and his wife for their encouragement to a stranger suffering from depression. Bull has received an answer from Mr Gurney to the effect that ‘your name would not be a bar to me in that diocese (Bull was seeking ordination into the Church of England) and requests you will be kind enough to send a title for me as soon as convenient to him at his school room 21 Bellyard Temple Bar London If therefore you will do this, you will add to the obligations I am already under to you – and I hope and pray I may be fitted and enabled so to fulfill the awful charge, you will thus be instrumental to my obtaining – that you may never have occasion to repent of your appointment.’ Bull’s wife joins with him in sending her regards.
