Plain Text Transcription	From Robert Simpson at Bolton-le-Moors in Lancashire (postmark) to John Hirst in Bacup, Lancashire. Simpson has received Hirst’s letter of the 30th last and would like to offer the following observations. The first thing that engaged his attention was a mutilated quotation from Simpson’s own letter. [The rest of this letter is extremely difficult to read]. (1 sheet, 4p.) 12 November 1789 Robert Simpson (1764-1817) was born at Orwell in Kinrossshire, Scotland, the son of a farmer turned schoolmaster. He was apprenticed to a cloth-dresser but in 1776, after an evangelical conversion, entered James Scott’s evangelical academy in Yorkshire. From 1780 Simpson served congregations in Lancashire and in 1791 was appointed tutor at the Hoxton Academy in London. He was an inspiring teacher and was awarded a D.D. by the University of Glasgow.
