Plain Text Transcription	From Lady Barham [Diana Noel] at Fairy Hill near Swansea, Glamorganshire, to Thomas Haweis at Beaufort Buildings, Bath, Somerset. The house is in such a state owing to the necessity of repairing it that she cannot find his last kind letter, but she thinks that he said that the money would be paid at her request. Diana decided to wait before making an approach to the fund, but now she is so distressed for money that she can scarcely lay her hands on a guinea.(one pound and one shilling) She has received only a ‘few hundreds’ for herself and her children during these last five months. Reference is made to the debts that Diana has incurred. In short, she is in a state of financial distress that she has never before experienced and would like an immediate answer telling her how to proceed ‘in selling out.’. She cannot have forseen the non-payments that have taken place – the mortgage of her poor husband’s [property] for £50,000 and the partner in the mill becoming bankrupt ‘and my father’s £29,000 in his hand’. Reference is made to other failing investments and the debts incurred by Charles (probably Diana's son Charles Noel (1781-1866), 1st Earl of Gainsborough) and the others. Diana’s son William owing her father £10,000 and defaulting on the debts – how could she have known all this? (annotated by Thomas Haweis - 'Lady Barham borrowing [against?] Fairy Hill.
