From
David
Jones
at
Coychurch
in
Glamorganshire
, to
T.H
. at
Vineyards
Chapel
in
Bath
,
Somerset
. He
is
pleased
that the
woodcocks
have
arrived
safely
–
he
could
also have
supplied
T.H
. with a
few
hares
during
the
winter
but the
transport
was
too
questionable
. The
good
news
that
T.H
.
sent
concerning
the
mission
in
Sierra
Leone
is
very
pleasing
.
Jones
is
willing
to
give
T.H
.
all
the
assistance
in his
power
, but the
work
is
so
pressing
in
Wales
, that he
is
sure
that
T.H
. will
excuse
his
absence
from
England
. He
does
not
know
what to
do
for
Lady
Anne
[Erskine]
–
he
tentatively
promised
to be in
town
[London]
about
the
latter
end
of
March
, but the
people
are
very
pressing
for him to
remain
here.
[Jennett]
Haweis
will
know
something
of the
‘warmth
of the
poor
Welsh
in their
solicitations
of the
Gospel
. If he
does
feel
called
to
go
to
London
, he
does
not have the
least
objection
to
remain
for a
month
at
Bath
on his
return
.

David
Jones
(1736-1810)
was
born
at
Llanwyni
in
Wales
, the
son
of a
farmer
. He was
educated
at
Carmarthan
Grammar
School
and was
ordained
deacon
in
1758
. He
held
curacies
in
Wales
and
Wiltshire
before
the
influence
of the
Countess
of
Huntingdon
procured
for him the
living
at
Langan
where
he was
ordained
priest
in
1767
. His
ministry
there
lasted
for
over
forty
years
and was
strongly
evangelical
. In
1791
he
built
Salem
Chapel
to
accommodate
the
large
congregations
and was a
favorite
of the
Countess
of
Huntingdon
,
preaching
her
funeral
sermon
.
