Plain Text Transcription	From Lady Barham [Diana Noel] at Fairy Hill (Barham's house) near Swansea, Glamorganshire,to Thomas Haweis at Weymouth in Dorset. This is an important matter and Diana must really seek her friend’s assistance. As her memory is so bad, she does not know what she has already told her friend about this place so Haweis must forgive her if she goes on too long. He must also forgive her for not mentioning this previously, but she had hopes of speaking to him in person and that would have been better. The chapel (probably Bethesda Burry Green as this opened in the year that this letter was written) is half a mile from the house and [the rest of this passage is extremely difficult to read because of the poor handwriting]. It was not exactly what Diana wanted as Mr R. did not quite allow her to choose, but she hopes the Lord will bless it as she was certainly led here and never was there a place more in want. She has now come to the most difficult part of the letter – she wants Haweis to intercede with the other trustees (appointed in 1790 under the terms of the will of the Countess of Huntingdon to oversee her Connexion) to allow her to have single men [for the ministry of her chapel] utterly given up to the work like John Bridgman, until they can get a chapel for married ones. Reference is made to a letter she has written to Mr Butcher (appointed in 1805 to fill a vacancy on the trust deed of the Countess of Huntingdon Connexion) promising to give £50 per annum and a house [for the use of the minister?] together with whatever else is wanted for the finishing of the chapel. Diana thinks that she will need a power of attorney. She has two scholmasters at a cost of £40 per annum and must perhaps build a school room. It would delight Haweis to see her surrounded by all her little ‘hottentots’ – there are about 24 of them, all eagerly drinking in the word of the Lord. 27 August 1814 (1 sheet, 4 pp.)
