From
T.H
. to
Lady
Barham
[Diana
Noel]
. The
money
has been
lying
in the
banker’s
hands
for the
last
month
ever
since
the
dividends
were
paid
in and
might
have been
paid
any
day
that
Noel
had
called
for
it
.
Reference
is
made
to the
assurance
that they have been
expecting
from
Noel’s
son
[Charles]
but they have not
yet
heard
from him. The
money
can
be
paid
to
Noel’s
banker
in
London
or any
other
person
that she
chooses
to
nominate
.
‘I
shall
be
agreeably
disappointed
if
your
next
half
year
does
not
leave
you
more
embarrassed
than the
present
, with the
additional
mortification
of
being
uable
to
fulfill
your
engagement
. This
I
confess
appears
to
me
neither
the
path
of
duty
or
wisdom
, and
I
should not be the
faithful
friend
I
am
conscious
I
am
, if
I
did
not
tell
you
so
, not in
anger
as
you
suppose
but in
love
unfeigned.’
T.H
. would
visit
his
Ladyship
with
pleasure
if
distance
did
not
make
the
journey
impossible
.
T.H
.
is
not
particularly
unwell
but he was
‘seized
yesterday
with a
[unreadable
word]
that
seized
me
in the
night
, and
is
not
today
quite
removed
.
Youl
will
give
me
your
directions
,
when
,
where
and to
whom
the
money
is
to be
paid.’
