Plain Text Transcription	From W. Gurney, Rector of St Clement Dane in London, at 24 Bellyard, Temple Bar, London, to T.H. at 5 Beaufort Buildings in Bath, Somerset. It is now many years since their only meeting – Gurney was at the time curate of Beachhampton and Thornton in Buckinghamshire. The passage of time has not however worn away the memory from his mind. Spiritual matters are discussed. Gurney has been highly honored to have been made an instrument of the Lord in the admission of six young men into the Anglican ministry. ‘It is now my secret employment to find out, and prepare with competent literary qualifications, such as are decidedly converted characters. I trust among others your old acquaintance Brother [John] Harris, formerly a missionary to ‘Otaheite’ [Tahuata in the Pacific Marquesas Islands] will be very soon admitted a Deacon. When it is over you shall know the particulars – great difficulties lie in the way…’ Mr Bull, to whom T.H. was kind enough to offer a ‘title’ (Part of the paperwork for application to join the Anglican ministry) is also somewhat in Gurney’s hands – to save time can T.H. send the title straight to Gurney? Bull will send to Gurney the ‘Testamonium’ and the ‘Si quis’ certificate and Gurney can therefore send them all in together. Gurney has written to his friend who is close to the Bishop and hopefully all obstacles will soon be removed. If T.H. knows of any other clergyman who can also provide a title, he would be grateful for any assistance as he will need two or three other titles shortly. (1 sheet, 3p.) 12 November 1811
