Plain Text Transcription	Anon to T.H. [Thomas Haweis] at the ‘chapel house’ in Brighton, Sussex. This letter is very serious – he would be most grieved to see their efforts in foreign lands dissipated and the good work damaged by our ‘slackness’. His influence has gone but T.H. still carries weight and his correspondent hopes that it will be exerted for two great objects as follows: 1. Prevention of their funds being frittered away on small projects unconnected with missions to foreign lands. 2. To focus on a great object that will engage the interest of the wider Christian world as without this, their influence will steadily diminish and the society [presumably the London Missionary Society] dwindle into insignificance. Their funds will vanish and they will be unable to support missionaries. He has received a very nice letter from Dr Gregory which he will show to T.H. but in the present circumstances, he does not think that the proposition would meet with approval.
