From Sidney Gage (Wife of Thomas Gage, and a relation of General Thomas Gage, last Royal governor of Massachusetts) in Worcester to T.H. at Pulteney Buildings at Weymouth in Dorset. She is pleased that the change of air is likely to prove beneficial to T.H.’s dear son [John Oliver Willyams Haweis]. Sidney must however decline the invitation to join them – her dear sister has requested that she not move further away than Malvern at this time. Both of Sydney’s neices are well and Maria particularly asked that her regards be sent to the Haweis family. Lady [Anne] O’Brien (widow of Sir Lucius O'Brien (1731-1795)) spent the day with Sidney before she left Bath and is so unwell that she is only waiting for Kitty’s (Katherine O'Brien (d. 1819) wife of Gerald Fitzgerald) ‘confinement and’ [pregnancy] before she leaves for better air. Lucy is O’Brien’s only domestic friend at the moment – the rest are on their ‘rambles’. (1 sheet, 2p.) 2 July [1818] |
