Plain Text Transcription	From Lady Barham [Diana Noel] at Fairy Hill near Swansea, Glamorganshire, to Mrs [Elizabeth] Haweis at 5 Beaufort Buildings, Bath, Somerset. Alas for her dear ‘S.S’ [‘Sweet Sydney’ - a term of endearment for Elizabeth]. She sees that it is true from a packet of books sent by Elizabeth’s dear brother (either James or Samuel McDowall) and the news has been confirmed by her weekly newspaper. (Reference to the death of Thomas Haweis, which took place on 11th February 1820.) Oh that her poor friend be comforted at this distressing time. Diana knows that Elizabeth’s soul will bend in submission to the divine will. She hopes that Elizabeth’s dear brothers are on hand at this unhappy time. Diana will not write more for fear of adding to Elizabeth’s fatigue, but she will know how much she in Diana’s thoughts and prayers. In a postscript, she adds that she has been unwell this last week but is feeling better now. (1 sheet, 4 p.) February 21 1820
Notes	Lady Diana had originally dated her letter "Dec.", then overwrote "Feb." Letter was postmarked from Swansea on February 23. Black wax seal
