Plain Text Transcription	Thomas Fancourt at St Saviour’s (probably the parish of St. Saviour's in Southwark, London) to T.H. at Lady Huntingdon’s chapel house in Brighton, Sussex. In the expectation of hearing again from T.H. in a few days, T.H. delayed acknowledging his kind letter. He is sorry that this means there has been a silence on his part, particularly when a money draft is involved. Fancourt and his wife are deeply aware of T.H.’s love and friendship – his liberality was indeed opportune as they were disappointed in their intention of sharing a house with Fancourt’s brother at St Saviour’s ‘from apprehensions for the safety of our dear little babe’. Smallpox has been common in the neighbourhood of St Saviour’s and they have therefore been required to opt for a more expensive mode of living for the present, namely being in lodgings in Camberwell, London at the high cost of a guinea a week. In order to ease their worry, they intend to have the little one innoculated ‘while she is teething and feel therefore some inclination to submit to the new mode of innoculating with the cow-pox, but a difference of opinion among our friends causes us to demur.’ Fancourt’s wife sends her regards. (1 sheet, 1p.) 6 September 1800 Annotated by T.H. – ‘Mr Fancourt – the major was murdered at Vellore [India] by the native troops who mutinied at being compelled to adopt European costume’ - the Vellore mutiny of contingents of the East India Company army took place on 10 May 1806.
