Plain Text Transcription	From Eliza Elton at Clevedon Court in Somerset to [Elizabeth] Haweis at Beaufort Buildings in Bath, Somerset. She received Elizabeth’s letter – ‘my dearest S.S. [sweet Sydney]’ (This was evidently an affectionate nickname for Elizabeth Haweis - also used by Lady Barham in her correspondence with Elizabeth.) before she left [unreadable place name]. Eliza is pleased that Elizabeth’s dear brother (either James or Samuel McDowall) is with her. Reference is made to a future visit to be made by Eliza to Elizabeth. She has heard at last that Sir Abraham [Elton] and their daughters have all landed safely in Calais after a good passage in delightful weather. Eliza has been ‘in hot water’ because of these ‘tiresome contested elections; Sir [Abraham] has so many votes in the county that it was with great difficulty he escaped at last. It did delay him some time.’ There is no need for Elizabeth to reply to this letter, as Eliza must visit Bath on business and to meet her son who is passing through. She has offered him and his family the use of her lodging and she is not sure if they have a bed available for her, so she is unable to tell Elizabeth the exact day of her visit. She is enjoying herself very much, although quite alone in this large house. Eliza is waiting to attend a meeting of the Bible Society at Wrington on Thursday next – on that day there is also an annual fete at Barley Wood upon the lawn, which is a very pretty thing and a chance for her to see old friends.
