Lady Anne Erskine at Spa Fields in London to T.H. at the chapel house, “Vineyards”, in Bath, Somerset. T.H’s letter greatly relieved her mind – she has given it to dear Dr [John] Ford (Ford was appointed a trustee of the Countess of Huntingdon Connexion in 1805 and had a particular interest in financial matters) and he shall reply on this same sheet. Erskine commits the settling of this business to T.H. and Ford. From Dr John Ford to T.H. Ford is sending with this letter a banker’s draft for £100 to be presented to his bank in Lombard Street, London. This represents half the sum required by Mr Stone to reduce the principal on the mortgage on the chapel in Birmingham. Ford will leave it to T.H. to ‘obtain the most proper discharge for the £200, only observing that if you knew the parties concerned as well as I do, you would prefer a receipt upon a proper stamp and duly witnessed for the sum of £200 in part of the principal sum of £700, for which the chapel belonging to Lady Huntingdon is mortgaged to Mr Stone…’ 5 March 1794 (1 sheet, 2p.) |
