Transcription	[Letter of Samuel Sebastian Wesley to unknown] Winchester September 14, [1860?] Sir I have not lookt at the subscription list to see if I have entered your money as paid. However, I write to say that if it was paid I will return it to you on your guaranteeing that it will be repaid on the publication of the work. The expense and trouble I have taken should not go unrewarded by such payments as those promised me and on the strength of which I have worked. You will I trust consider my view not ill-founded. I lost many subscriptions to a former work. After composing, printing and publishing many persons left me in the lurch most unhandsomely. Amongst such were Mr Stimpson organist of the Town Hall Birminghan, Mr Best, organist of the Hall Liverpool, Hill organ builder of London, etc., etc. Such dirty dealings must be my excuse for receiving subscriptions in advance. With apologies for my hasty writing, I remain Your very obedient servant S.S. Wesley
