Transcription	[Addressed:] To Samuel Lloyd, Esqr in Devonshire Square St James Sun[day] morning My dear friend I am in pain for you least you should lose the great blessing designed you by your late calamity. Thankful you ought to be that God blesses your pursuit of justice and I join in your thanksgiving but fear least you should be harried, confused, distracted, and lose sight of God’s gracious design. You have daily opportunity to vindicate true religion from having an hand in your sufferings. It was the hypocrite’s want of religion which made him so complete a villain. Perhaps you forget the caution I gave you when first you took him, “Not to look upon him as having any religion.” Could I find you alone at 8 tomorrow morning? I want your instructions how to behave to Miss D. and what to say. Yesterday she surprized me. I wa[i]ved the subject till I could see you. Tomorrow evening I promised her an hearing. (Our friend at Padington has suffered with you.) Observe, I should not meddle if Miss D.’s request of a conference did not force me. The Lord be your guide in all things!
