This county warrant was issued in Refugio by Refugio County . The note is typeset on brown paper . A simple line borders each edge of the note . The word 'Registered. ' is printed along the left border of the note ; it is signed beneath by Patrick Shelly for the treasurer . The phrase 'TWO DOLLARS ' is printed along the right border . The abbreviation 'No ' is printed towards the upper-left corner ; the number '63 ' is handwritten adjacent to it . The amount '$2.00 ' is printed in the upper-right corner . The place and year are printed in the lower-left corner ; the month and day are handwritten . The note is also is signed on the recto by William P . McGrew , Chief Justice . Shelly , a native of Ireland , is listed in the 1860 census as a merchant . McGrew , a Mississippi native , lists his occupation as an M . D . in the 1860 Census .
