This image is part of an album containing 48 photographs depicting the Columbian Naval Parade , held in New York on April 27 , 1893. This event was orchestrated in conjunction with the World's Columbian Exposition , Chicago , 1893 , which commemorated the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus ' arrival in the New World. The Naval Parade included 35 naval vessels from the United States and other countries , marking the first time that vessels from several countries paraded before a United States president.
