| Description | This is a brown leather cover of 'Album Artistico', which consists of handwritten biographies of 18th and 19th century artists in Puebla, Mexico written in Spanish by artist and sculptor Bernardo Olivares e Iriarte. Biographies include: Julian Ordonez; architect, sculptor and painter Jose Manso (or Manzo) (1789-ca. 1840), sculptor Jose Maria Legaspi, Pablo Talabera (or Talavera), Miguel Jeronimo de Zendejas (1724-1815), Obispo Perez, Salvador del Huerto, Francisco Morales, (J?) Medina and an overview of the professors at the Academy of Fine Arts in the city of Puebla. In addition to the biographies, there are 45 pen and ink and watercolor drawings as well as photographs of some of the artists tipped into the album. Many of the drawings are by Olivares of allegorical art and models, ''costumbrismo'' of quaint, indigenous people, and such religious subjects as the Agony in the Garden, John the Baptist, Mary Magdalene, Christ at the Column, and the Massacre of the Innocents, in addition to two landscape paintings entitled ''El Cerro de San Juan'' and ''Cuento Fantastico para ninos.'' There are also drawings and etchings by Alejandro Ruiz, Manzo, Medina, Morales and Ordonez. |
